When I recently moved to the Hudson area to help my son's family with the care of my toddler grand-daughter and her newborn sister, I found myself almost immobilized by pain and back spasms within the first week of my arrival. I wanted so to play with my rambunctious, 35-pound toddler, but my strength and balance classes at my home gym in California had not prepared me for her enthusiastic and sudden full-body assaults and weird floor positions, which I tried in vain to enjoy. Tension from the amount of chauffeuring I was suddenly doing, trading off between two unfamiliar cars; learning my way around unfamiliar country roads; and adapting to evolving family dynamics, only compounded the problems. I began to doubt that I would be able to help out at all.Family members urged me to contact Becky Sandler, a wonderful Alexander specialist for help. I met Becky for the first time a little over a month ago. In our very first session, Becky was able to find points of comfort, and furthermore, taught me to find those points of comfort myself so that I could begin to work my way back to health, normal range of movement, and much greater enjoyment of my young family. Along the way I also discovered that in fact, I had experienced other discomfort for a number of years caused by postural problems that had gone unaddressed. I had simply avoided them by limiting my activities to a considerable extent. And my new Hudson life only exacerbated those problems. Together, with the help of an excellent chiropractor, we formulated a plan to build self-awareness and restore joy of movement. Above all, Becky is a most caring, nurturing practitioner. She is a wonderful listener, and truly treats the "whole person" with great empathy and generosity. She also offers many resources for additional help. I am so very grateful to have been able to work with her, and quite frankly, just to know her. She is a treasure.
